The Signup / Setup Process

Hopefully by now you’ve had an opportunity to read our online poker room reviews, and have decided where you’d like to play. While most online poker rooms offer easy to follow setup instructions, here’s a brief rundown of the typical signup and setup process.

Step #1 – Download the Poker Room Software

The first step is to download the online poker room’s software. Each online poker room has their own website, from where you download the software. Once you arrive on their website look for the button that says “play now” or “free download” – it’s usually highly visible, then click on it.

For example, if PokerStars is your chosen site, then click on this link; PokerStars. This will open a new window directing you to the PokerStars website, which should look something like this:

Sign up to PokerStars

After clicking on the download button (or the “free download” image) a new window will pop up with buttons for run, save, and cancel – click on the button that says run (or save it, then run it). If you’ve got a firewall installed on your computer, check that it’s setup to allow the download.

Step #2 – Install the Poker Room Software

If the site is PokerStars then follow their simple installation instructions. Don’t forget to enter the marketing code POKEROLOGY when prompted, and the PokerStars bonus code STARS600.

You shouldn’t have any problems installing the poker room software. Downloading and installing will usually only take a couple minutes if you are using broadband internet. It’s just like installing any other piece of software on your computer.

Once you have downloaded the online poker software and its installed, you’ll have quick access to it right from your desktop. Look for the newly installed icon on your desktop. You can double click this any time to launch the software. But most online poker software will launch automatically on your computer after installing for the first time.

Step #3 – Create / Register an Account

Once you’ve installed the software and opened it up, you’ll be presented with the lobby area. This is where you can select a game to play in (more on that in the next section). But first you need to create an account. Registering an account is easy and usually takes only a few moments. In most cases you’ll be asked to verify your email address. Then you can pick out a username and password.

We recommend you take some time to think of a suitable username/nickname when you register an online poker account. Each online poker player is only allowed one account at each room, and you won’t be able to change it later (unless you play at Cake Poker, who allow players to change their player ID every 7 days). So pick a nickname you think you’ll still be happy with in the later on. Oh, and don’t forget to create a strong password!

Now You’re Ready to Play Online Poker!

If you’ve followed these 3 simple steps then you’ll be ready to play online poker for fun with play money without risking a penny. Of course you can choose to become a real money online poker player by making a deposit into your real money poker player account.
