BETFAIR POKER REVIEW
Software & Features
The actual software that Betfair Poker uses might not be the prettiest looking but you’ll find it solid, stable, and very reliable. Although the game play and graphics at Betfair Poker is much better than it once was, which is a result of a major software update in 2007.
The lobby area is easy to understand and includes all the usual features you would expect to see at a major online poker room. You’ll also enjoy the fast game pace and multi-table players will feel right at home with the option to play as many as 15 at once. The software is also multi-lingual and available in English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Russian.
Player Traffic / Ease of Competition
Like any independent online poker room, the traffic is slightly lower than your average poker network. During European peak times (16:00 – 00:00 GMT) Betfair averages around 5000+ players. Out of this total around 1000+ players can be found in the cash games while the other 4000+ reside in their online poker tournaments. Although traffic at Betfair Poker can be low, the player base is very loyal and the competition is easier to beat.
There’s plenty of low to mid stakes action and even some of the higher stakes offer juicy games ripe for the picking. As with any poker room that provides sports betting and casino games, you can always expect the competition to be soft. Most of the poker players are amateurs that wander in from the casino or sports betting section to play poker like it was black jack or roulette. You can often find many loose games with flop percentages reaching as high as 70% – even at some of the higher stake games.
Cash Game Action
There’s always a half decent selection of cash game action at Betfair Poker. Players can choose from two different variations including Texas Hold’em and Omaha. Check out the rundown below to see what’s on offer.
NL Hold’em (2c/4c to $250/$500): Great action is offered on most stakes here especially during peak hours. You often see 9 handed full tables up to $25/$50 stakes.
FL Hold’em (10c/20c to $1k/$2k): Lots of action to be found here as-well, stakes goes as high as $50/$100 with 6 handed tables being the most popular.
PL Hold’em (5c/10c to $250/$500): There is very little action past the $5/$10 stakes.
PL Omaha (5c/10c to $250/$500): Omaha junkies are in for a real treat with action going all the way up to $100/$200. The most occupied ones seem to be the heads-up games.
Multi-Table Tourneys (MTTs)
Betfair Poker offer all types of multi table tournaments such as, regular, speed and rebuy. Buy-in’s start from as low as $1 and go all the way up to $500 (they can go up even higher for live poker event qualifiers and big guarantees). The $5, $20 and $60 tournaments seem to attract the most amounts of players and the competition is softer than most major online poker rooms.
There’s always a good choice of low buy-in satellites available to bigger online tournaments and live poker events. Some of these include the $1 Betfair live Ibiza satellite and the $55 Greek GPT qualifier. Betfair Poker also offer daily $5 bankroll starter freerolls and a $500 weekly welcome freeroll so there are always plenty of ways to get stuck into the action.
Sit & Go (SNG) Selection
Betfair Poker’s variety of Sit & Go tournaments is good. With buy in’s starting from as little as $0.10 and going all the way to $10,000 there’s something for every one. You can find regular, speed, rebuy, and deep stack tournaments in both hold’em and Omaha variations.
